17 May 2012, Budapest. On the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) MDAC reaffirms its support for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people around the world. In particular, MDAC calls for the recognition of equal rights for LGBTQ persons with disabilities, who face multiple discrimination on the grounds of their disability and sexual orientation or gender identity. »
MDAC welcomes Russia’s step towards becoming a State Party to the CRPD and calls on the Russian government to fully implement the Convention and to “take all appropriate measures, including legislation, to modify or abolish existing laws, regulations, customs and practices that constitute discrimination against persons with disabilities” Article 4(1) b) CRPD). »
MDAC has signed a joint NGO submission, in which we call on the Minister of Justice and Public Administration to withdraw the proposal, which, if adopted by Parliament, would declare that Hungary is not willing to implement the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). »
The Mental Disability Advocacy Center is delighted to announce that Thomas Hammarberg is the organisation’s Honorary President, effective today. Thomas Hammarberg served as the second Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, completing his six-year mandate last Friday. »
