Serbia
As part of a multi-country research project on guardianship, MDAC has highlighted how adults with intellectual and mental health disabilities under ‘guardianship’ in Serbia are excluded from mainstream society and denied even the most basic of human rights rights.
Recommendations in the report are to be used to help the government improve its legislation, policy and practice in relation to guardianship. The government is also encouraged to develop alternatives to guardianship, particularly supported-decision making alternatives.
Although Serbia has signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it has failed to ratify it. See why it should ratify and how you can join us in our campaign to encourage ratifcation by clicking here .
